3rd Annual It Came From Texas Film Fest in Garland

Dallas’s only live, interactive, movie mocking comedy shows returns to the third annual It Came From Texas Film Festival in downtown Garland.

What movie are they riffing on this time? They’re not telling. Are they crazy?!? What kind of bizarro marketing scheme is this?

That’s because it’s a “secret screening!” You won’t know the movie (or movies) you’ll be watching with them until the lights go down and the projector starts humming.

It all goes down at 9:30 pm on Friday. Sept. 12 at the Plaza Theater in downtown Garland. Get your tickets now at garlandarts.com

"Super Mario Bros." at La Cantera Arts Conservatory (FREE SHOW!)

We’re bringing back one of our biggest fan favorites to La Cantera Arts Conservatory in Dallas and here’s the best part: You can see it for free!

Our riff of the 1993 version of Super Mario Bros. always brings out a cool crowd of 80s kids and retro gaming fanatics and it’s also one of our funniest riffs.

Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo plays the world’s most famous video game characters who get sucked into an alternate dimension where humans evolved from dinosaurs and they must rescue a princess who can prevent the Mushroom Kingdom from merging with our own! Oh and did we mention Dennis Friggin’ Hopper is in this glorious mess?!?

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" at La Cantera Arts Conservatory (FREE SHOW!)

Marvel may have the biggest film franchise in the world right now but it had to make some major mistakes to get where it is today. And it did just that back in 2009 with X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Hugh Jackman returns to the role of Wolverine for his first ever origin story film. It attempts to tell the origin story of how Mr. Knives-for-Hands got his adamantium claws and general disdain for society but bub, it makes some bizarre plot choices. Don’t even get us started on what they did to Deadpool.

That means it’s perfect for Dallas’ only live, interactive, movie mocking comedy show! And here's the best part: This show is FREE! All you’ve got to do is RSVP here on Eventbrite or show up at the door by 9 pm (doors open at 8 pm) on Friday, June 27 at La Cantera Arts Conservatory (1050 N. Westmoreland Rd.) and you can join in the mockery with us for the same amount of money you’d be willing to pay to watch X-Men Origins: Wolverine again.

"The Lawnmower Man" at La Cantera Arts Conservatory (FREE SHOW!)

Back in the 70s, horrormeister Stephen King wrote a short story of bloody revenge called "The Lawnmower Man." Hollywood read the story and decided it would make for a great feature-length film. The only problem is it's just a short story. You can’t just have a killer lawnmower come to life, turn some evil bully into mulch and roll the closing credits.

So the studio decided to tack on a second and completely different story about a hapless lawnmower dude played by Jeff Fahey and a scientist played by Pierce Brosnan who’s driven to improve mankind's intelligence through the use of virtual reality (so the scientist invented the new Batman Arkham VR game?)?

The Lawnmower Man movie strayed so far from the source material and turned out to be so bad that Stephen King sued the studio and the people who made it to take his name off the project. Do you know how bad that has to be? He KEPT his name on BOTH "Firestarters!"

That means it's perfect for Dallas' only live, interactive, movie mocking comedy show, the Mocky Horror Picture Show! The movie-riffing comedy troupe that performs at the Texas Theatre is bringing their riff of this schlocky tech fest to the La Cantera Arts Conservatory at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 30 and (here's the best part), it's free! All you have to do is RSVP to reserve your seats for the show. Guests are also encouraged to donate to the non-profit La Cantera Arts Conservatory.

“Reefer Madness” 4/20 Special at the Texas Theatre

“Reefer Madness” is one of those movies that just gets funnier the more you riff on it. Maybe that’s why it’s the one movie we’ve riffed on the big screen the most.

This year, we decided to bring back this drug propaganda classic to the big screen and we’re not just gonna riff on it. We’re gonna do a whole special on 4/20!

Join us at the Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff on April 20th for a brand new special with new sketches, a brand new short film riff, songs and more! Get your tickets now while they last at texastheatre.com and https://www.prekindle.com/event/26387-mocky-horrors-reefer-madness-4-20-special-dallas

Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter at LAN All Night

We return to our favorite weekend gaming festival for another special riff with our fans at LAN All Night!

This time, we’re coming back and bringing hell with us because we’ve pulled a classic riff of a weird western/horror from our archives. “Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter” tells one of the lesser-known stories of the famous Wild West outlaw who crosses paths with the daughter of the infamous Dr. Frankenstein. She’s hellbent on creating an army of super mutants from the bodies of the recently deceased and only Jesse James can stop them.

The It Came From Texas Film Festival with "Rock Baby Rock It!"

Mocky Horror returns to the second annual It Came From Texas Film Festival at The Plaza in Garland!

This one-of-a-kind film festival celebrates the best Texas films and this year’s theme focused on dramas and westerns. They also feature the…well, “not so best” Texas movies and they dug up a real gem for us called “Rock Baby Rock It,” a bizarre 50s rock music drama shot in Dallas. It’s about a group of teens who find out their favorite dance club is in danger of being taken over by the mob so they organize a show to save it featuring acts where the biggest name is Elvis Presley’s fan club president.

We’ll close out the fest with a mock of “Rock Baby Rock It” (and a few other surprises) at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15. Get your tickets now at prekindle.com or get a weekend pass for the rest of this amazing festival.

"Super Mario Bros." at Free Play in Fort Worth

Last month, the staff of the Alamo Drafthouse DFW movie theater chain woke up one morning to learn that they suddenly lost their jobs. The chain went bankrupt closing all of its locations and leaving 600 of its employees with no work. So we decided to bring back one of our most popular riffs and use it to raise some money for our fellow film fanatics.

We’re bringing back our public mockery of 1993’s “Super Mario Bros.” to Free Play Arcade in Fort Worth (1311 Lipscomb St.) at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 19th.

The show will be free and open to the public. We’ll also have raffles to raise money for the Alamo Drafthouse employee’s GoFundMe campaign with prizes like two free VIP passes to this year’s Jared’s Epic Blaster Battle at AT&T Stadium and more!

Mocky Horror Riffs "The Giant Gila Monster" at LAN All Night

We’re packing up one of our classic riffs and taking it with us to the LAN All Night gathering at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine!

The crowd went nuts for our “Captain America” roast last year so we’re coming back with an even bigger and badder movie straight from the heart of Texas with “The Giant Gila Monster.” It’s the story of…well, a giant gila monster. That’s pretty much it. Everything you need to know is right there in the title.

We’ve also got another surprise in store for y’all this time. You’ll just have to be there to see it. That’s why it’s called a “surprise” and not a “tell-you-ahead-of-time-prise.”

You can either join us at LAN All Night, the annual gamer gathering run by the wonderful nonprofit LANFest that helps raise money for important causes all over the country through special gaming events, or on Twitch the night of the show and watch the riff live at twitch.tv/lanallnight.

"The Lawnmower Man" at the Texas Theatre

Horror writer Stephen King gave you nightmares with Pet Sematary, made you afraid of the dark with It and kept you up at night with Creepshow

Now the master of horror will make you shiver with terror once again with The Lawnmower Man, the 1993 adaptation of King's short story that completely ignored the writer's initial vision for its own weird, 90s computer fever dream that King actually sued to have his name taken off the project.

The Lawnmower Man may not have been King's liking but that means it's perfect for us!
Join the Mocky Horror Picture Show for its live riff of The Lawnmower Man at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 11th. Get your tickets now at https://www.prekindle.com/event/27572-mocky-horror-picture-show-riffs-the-lawnmower-man-dallas

The "Street Fighter" Movie at the Texas Theatre

Remember when you were a child of the 80s going to the corner store just so you could play the “Street Fighter II” machine? This movie is nothing like that game and that’s why we’re riffing on it.

Join us at the Texas Theatre (231 W. Jefferson Blvd. in Oak Cliff) for a live riff of the first “Street Fighter” movie starring Raul Julia as M. Bison (that makes sense) and Jean Claude Van Damme as the all-American ass-kicker Guile (that makes no sense) at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25.

"Jack Frost" at the Alamo Drafthouse Richardson

Your favorite movie mocking comedy show is doing a show at the Alamo Drafthouse for the holidays!

Long before Michael Keaton became Oscar bait with “Birdman” and “Spotlight,” he starred in this bizarre meal ticket about a dead dad who comes back to life as a snowman. Really? He went from Batman to a snowman?

Join Liz, Danny and Albie for the holidays and help them riff on this holiday movie. Tickets are $16 and come with a bag of props. It’ll also be the first movie where the audience gets to have a snowball fight! Reserve your seats at drafthouse.com/dfw.
